Monahans-Wickett-Pyote ISD school bus driver's have been collecting supplies to send to troops serving in Iraq.  Last week the drivers shipped a total of 31 boxes to the soldiers.

"Gina Williams decided to organize this effort to collect items for my son, Bryce and others in his troop."  bus driver Dana Gandy said.  "She sent emails asking other to help out by donating supplies.  We started collecting personal hygiene products, hand sanitizers, pop-top cans of fruit and snacks, beef jerky, leather gloves, phone cards, magazines and other items for the soldiers."

"We can't ship products in aerosol cans or pork products," Gandy added. "but the soldiers like personal letters, so if anyone would like to write a letter, we will include them in the shipment."

According to Gandy, her son Tech Sergeant Michael B. Gandy with the Air Force civil engineers was sent to Iraq in January of this year and will remain there until August.

Gandy, a 1988 graduate of Monahans High School, is with the 407th Expeditonary Civil Engineers out of McGuire AFB in Trenton, NJ.  He and his wife Pauline have two children John Zach and Shelby.  Bryce joined the Air Force  in May, 1989.

If anyone would like to donate to the project, they can pick up a list of items.  The supplies can be taken to the MWP-ISD bus barn.  For more information call 943-2172.
