MWPISD board members heard a report on recent TAKS tests during the Dec. 17 school board meeting.

Within the report of each campus is a breakdown of how students performed by percentage in various areas on TAKS test.  The report tells by percentage how each campus performed in reading, mathematics and other tests compared within the state, district and campus for 2007-2008.

The state sets a percentage that indicates what students should be passing the test.  The percentage at the state level on the report indicated the number of students who did better than the state percentage and passed the test on the first administration.  The District level percentage explains what percentage of the students passed the test within the district, which is a portion of the region.  The campus level score in the specified grade level tells how many of those grade levels students passed the test on their campus.

In 2008, reading scores for fourth-graders at Sudderth Elementary average 85 percent at the state level, 79 percent at the district level, and 79 percent at the campus level.  In the 2008 mathematics scores, 87 percent at state level, 75 percent at district level, and 75 percent at the campus level.  Writing scores include 93 percent at state level, 90 percent at district level, and 90 percent at the campus level.

The AEIS also gives a campus profile for each campus, which tells how many students in each grade, ethnic distribution, and percentage of economically disadvantaged students, percentage of limited English proficiency students, students with disciplinary placement, at-risk students and number of students per teacher.  Data on the staff for each campus is available in the AEIS report.  The data categories include ethnicity and sex, teachers by years of experience and average age teacher salary by years of experience.  The campus profile goes on to give data about operating expenditure information for each campus.  This information consists of expenditures by function and by program such as bilingual education, career and technology education and gifted and talented education.  Data is also given for each program the campus participates in.  The AEIS report also provides the same information and comparisons within MWPISD and other district in the state
