Kathy Faucett, president of the Pecos Valley Resource Conservation and Development board, recently presented a check in the amount of $500 to Daryl Skinner, principal of the Monahans Educational Center High School.
The grant money will be used to help the school purchase materials needed for a multimedia center.
"This will go a long way in assisting the school's dropout recovery program in Monahans which will enhance educational capabilities and improve student's TAKS scores," said Skinner.
The PVRC&D serves eight counties including Ward. Their goal is "Helping West Texans Help Themselves."
"This is a new program for the PVRC&D board aimed at assisting our service area to start programs and projects. These projects are to assist the communities in areas of economic development, natural resources and assist with community facilities and service to enhance the quality of life for all citizens," explains PVRC&D member Ray Cisneros.
According to MEC staff, 17 students have completed their courses for graduation already this year, and there are 35 more still working toward that goal.
