MHS Big Green Band Students Earn 90 Medals
By Staff Writers  ~~ The Monahans News, March 27, 2007

On February 9, 2008 member of the Big Green Band participated in the UIL Solo & Ensemble contest hosted in Monahans.

Over 20 schools participated in the contest in classes A to 4A.  As has become tradition, Monahans students earned more solo awards than any other school that participated.  Students performed solos for judges and were accompanied by local pianists Sue Branham, Lola Mclain and Conda Lee.

To receive a medal, students had to earn the highest rating possible from a judge, called a 1st Division.  Two band students, Chip Reyes and Loren Miller performed at such a high level that their judges wrote in a 1st Division-Plus on their comment sheets.

In addition to the solo awards, the Jazz Band and a small band featuring Chris Garcia on bassoon both earned 1st Division ratings.  At the end of the day MHS band members earned a total of 90 medals.

Congratulations to the following students for making a Division One rating on their solo: Abby Marquez, Alan Marquez, Amy Rose, Andrea Ybarra, Andrew Ligon, Arthur Sedillos, Bo Rose, Bobby Fabian, Brooke Moore, Cameron Boyd, Chip Reyes, Chris Garcia, Courtney Rutledge, Daniel Heslin, Delaney Rives, Hanna Escamilla, Jacob Sotelo, Jeremy Durr, John Witucki, Julian Hernandez, Kaitlyn Kesey, Kelsi Hayes, Kourtney Marquez, Leandra Baeza, Loren Miller, Matthew Santiago, Megan Galindo, Melissa Salgado, Mireya Reyes, Monica Ortiz, Nicol Eddings, Nichole Roeber, Priscilla Gould, Ruben Briones, Ryan Day, Steven Flores and Xavier Walker.
