Band Heads for California With Help From WestStar
By Staff Writers ~~ The Monahans News, May 5, 2008

As the band prepares for their trip to California, there is no question that Weststar Autoplex played a major role in raising funds for the huge endeavor.  Weststar agreed to sponsor the Big Green Band last summer through the Dodge Hometown Scholarship Program.

Through the Dodge Hometown Scholarship Program, band boosters and members requested $5 donations from community members.  They were then entered for a chance to win a Dodge Mega Cab Truck.  The truck was a donated through Dodge and could be won by anyone in the state of Texas (as long as their community dealer was involved in the program).  Dealers from all over the state were involved, and this program gave Weststar an opportunity to directly impact and participate in our community.   The Monahans High School Band would like to thank Weststar for their participation in the program.  They look forward to doing this again next year.

The winner of the Dodge truck is Vicki Brownlee from Mount Pleasant.  She made a donation to her local high school band.   Dodge is proud to announce that through the Dodge Hometown Scholarship Program, high school bands were able to raised over $520,000 to support their programs.

Locally, the Monahans High School band raised over $9,000.  With this money they will be able to pay for a large pat of their trip to California.  If someone you know was impacted by this, stop by Weststar and thank them personally for their contributions.  Without them this would not have been possible.  The band would also like to thank Peggy Bryant from Weststar for playing a vital role in organizing and planning.

The Hometown Scholarship Program is a national program conducted through local high school organizations that are matched with their local dealership.  Since its inception in 2003, the Program has raised an estimated $4 million in scholarship funds.
