The Lobo baseball team ended their regular season with the West Texas Dust Storm Classis tournament held in Seminole this past weekend.
The Loboes took on Shallowater for the first game in the bracket. The game was ended with a score of 11-11 however Shallowater won due to the tie-breaker rule of more runners on third base.
The Loboes hit the ball well with 14 hits. Kevin Kenyon hit a double and a triple, and Larry Jasso hit a double.
"The reason we lost that game was out inability to throw strikes. We walked 11 batters and hit two. We were ahead four runs going into the last inning and allowed Shallowater to tie 11-11," Coach Arcadio Rivera said.
Going into the consolation bracket, the Loboes faced Kermit again, shutting the Yellow Jackets out with the score of 18-2.
Once again the Loboes hit the ball well. This time with 17 hits. Blake Whisnad hit three doubles, and Miguel Gonzales hit two doubles. Kenny Almanza, T.J. Brooks, Tico Olivas and Larry Jasso each hit doubles.
The Loboes took the win for the consolation finals against Crane.
"Mike Gonzales pitched well. He held Crane scoreless for five innings," Rivera said.
"We ended up making a pitching change after a few walks and could not stop Crane from scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. We had two outs and Crane had the bases loaded in the last inning the they hit a double to win the game 3-2," Rivera said.
Crane took the win due to the two-hour time limit on the tournament game.
The Loboes ended their regular season at 7-4-1.
The Loboes will open district play against Presidio, a district favorite, on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. in Monahans.
