After round of two district play, Monahans and Pecos
are tied with 3-3 district records. Monahans beat Pecos 7-1 in round
one. In round two on Monday, Pecos beat Monahans 8-1.
Monahans scored the team's only run in the fifth inning, making the score 3-1. In the sixth, the Eagles upped their lead one run before scoring four more in the final.
There was some controversy late in the game when the official called 'safe' on a Pecos runner who appeared to have been tagged out well before third base. Monahans defense intended to end the inning with the out, and cancel the score from the Eagle who was running home. After the umpires exchanged words, the safe call stood and the inning continued with Pecos at-bat.
Round three of district play begins Friday night. All four teams in district 2-3A are tied.
"We are all 3-3 in district. With three games becomes important," said Coach Arcadio Rivera.
Monahans will face Presidio for the third time on Friday night. The Loboes have not been able to beat the Blue Devils this year, but are hoping the third time will be their charm. The game will begin at 7 pm at Lobo Field.
