The Loboes placed second in the three-day Monahans-hosted Sandhills Baseball Tournament held last week, March 1-3.
In the game against Brownfield, Monahans won 4-2.
"Steven Valles went the distance on the mound. Defensively, we played okay, but we made a lot of mental errors. Offensively, we did not burn up the base baths. We only had six hits, but thank goodness that they were timely hits," said Coach Arcadio Rivera.
Brownfield was at a disadvantage
as four of their starters had playoff commitments with basketball.
Monahans will get a chance to play the entire team Tuesday night.
The second round of the playoffs for Monahans was Friday night against Denver City. Monahans was able to beat Denver City in just five innings. Tournament rules specified that the game would end in five innings if one team was ahead by eight runs.
Saturday's championship game was between Monahans and Fort Stockton on Saturday. In the first inning, Fort Stockton scored five runs, and Monahans came back with four. In the remaining innings, however, Fort Stockton was able to hold the Loboes back.
"Hitting-wise, we out-hit Stockton, but theirs came in pairs which produced runs," said Coach Rivera. Although the Loboes lost to Fort Stockton, he appreciates the progress the team is making. "We felt like we got better in this game as defensively we made fewer errors than we have since the Seminole game."
Monahans' game against Brownfield will be there at 6 pm on Tuesday.
