The Lobo baseball team battled from behind to take over a Tuesday night game against the Pecos Eagles. Steven Valles pitched the complete game, striking out 12 en route to the 7-3 victory.
Pecos scored twice off a two run double in the
first, and compounded the lead with another run in the second. Monahans finally
got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third.
In the fourth, Ivan Rios took a bases loaded walk for a free RBI. In the same inning, Kalep Warden's third strike was dropped, allowing another run for Monahans. By the end of the inning, the Loboes had earned a slim 4-3 lead over Pecos.
Pecos scored a final run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at four, and Monahans took a single inning to break the game open.
The Loboes were taking advantage of a tiring pitcher since mid-game, and it paid off the most in the sixth.
Wit runners on first and third, Kalep took another walk to load the bases. Ty Horton, Lobo catcher, was next at bat. He sent the pitch fair down the third base line, right past the infield. Ivan Rios, Kalep Warden and Aaron Armendariz came in during the shuffle, giving Horton three RBI's and putting Monahans ahead 7-4.
Steven Valles ended the final inning with a the game's twelfth strikeout to seal the Monahans win.
The win ties the teams' district records at 2-1. Pecos will host Fort Stockton this weekend. The Loboes defeated Stockton last Friday. Meanwhile, Presidio, who had handed the Loboes their lone district loss, will be in Monahans for a 7:30 pm game on Friday.
