The Lobo baseball squad led the state-ranked Presidio Blue Devils on their home field, 1-0 in the sixth inning.

It would have been like staling one, and nobody needed a win more than Monahans at 2-3 in district play.

But Hector Rodriguez, one of the best players in the area, stuck a dagger in the Loboes with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Houston Stockman pitched a whale of a game for the Loboes, allowing only two hits against the talented Devils before the big one.

MHS managed to get a man to second in the top of the seventh, but could not move the tying run across.

The loss leaves the Green in dire straits in the playoff race.  They now have to win out and have help in the form of Greenwood losses.

Pecos is undefeated a 6-0 and comes to Monahans Tuesday, and Greenwood (4-2) hosts Kermit.

District 4-3A Baseball Standings:

1. Pecos 6-0, 9-13;
2. Presidio 5-1, 16-2;
3. Greenwood 4-2, 12-6;
4. Monahans 2-4, 9-8;
5. Fort Stockton 1-5, 8-10;
6. Kermit 0-6, 8-10.
