The Loboes basketball team faced the Fort Stockton Prowlers Friday night in Fort Stockton. They were greeted by a very rowdy crowd of Fort Stockton fans.  Fort Stockton was undefeated in district play with a 4-0 record, and went on to defend this record by defeating the Loboes 74-49.

Monahans came out strong in the first half and were able to hold the Panthers to a five point lead, 30-25.  After the half, however, the Panthers came back strong and escaped from Lobo grasp.

"We knew they would come out strong at first with it being parents night, and that we would have to play really well.  And we did, but they got away from us in the third quarter," said Coach Thomas Clay.

Fort Stockton had three Panthers in double digit scoring, while Monahans had one, Sean Merrick, who scored ten points.  Arnold Rodriguez with eight points.  Chris Roberson and Chris Bates had seven each.

Fort Stockton outdid Monahans in shooting percentage.  In two-point field goals, Fort Stockton shot 39 percent, versus Monahans' 32 percent.  In rebounds, Monahans also trailed Fort Stockton with 32 against their 42.  The Panthers doubled the Loboes' offensive rebounds 22 to 11.

Fort Stockton is a tough team, as no one has yet been able to beat them in district play.  Monahans' district record is now 1-4.  Tuesday night is parents' night for the Loboes, who will play Pecos at the Jerry Larned Sports complex at 7:30 pm.
