Loboes Drop the Ball in Andrews

The Monahans Loboes were at the newly renovated Mustang Bowl in Andrews for  Friday night's football match-up.  After the Loboes took a second- quarter lead with the first touchdown, excessive turnovers contributed to their ensuring downfall.

Tanner Owens scored the first touchdown of the night with a 28-yard pass from Steven Valles.  The leads remained at 6-0 when the two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

With less than three minutes left in the third quarter, the Mustangs scored for a slim 7-6 lead.  The Kick-off return was fumbled and recovered by Andrews, who took advantage of the possession with another touchdown in just two plays. The Loboes left the field in an eight-point deficit at halftime, 6-14.

The first few minute of the second half were like deja va when the Loboes fumbled another kickoff return. Again, Andrews recovered.  The possession ended in another touchdown  for the Mustangs.  After the kick, the Loboes were behind 6-28.

By the end of the third quarter, Andrews went into the end zone again, making the score less than two minutes into the quarter, Andrews, who scored less than two minutes into the quarter.

Late in the fourth, the Loboes could not penetrate the Mustang defense at six years from goal.  Andrews took possession of the ball at their own.  Fabian Flores recovered for another chance at the touchdown.  This time, Christian Poynor caught a Steven Valles pass in the end zone for the Loboes' second and final touchdown with two minutes remaining in the game.  Steven Valles kicked the extra point .

A few plays later, the Mustangs kneeled the ball for the countdown and the 41-13 score.

Statistically, Andrews dominated across the board.

Monahans had 10 first downs versus Andrew's 17.  Monahans had a total 193 yards, 120 rushing and 73 passing.  Andrews more than doubled with 391 total yards, 256 rushing and 135 passing.

The Loboes lost five of their own seven fumbles, and recovered one of two Andrew's fumbles.  Monahans lost 35 yards on six penalties, while the Mustangs lost 21 on three.

On Friday, September 28, Monahans will face Graham at Wilford Moore Stadium at McMurry University in Abilene.  Graham is undefeated (3-0). Monahans' record is now 1-2.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30.
