Each year, the Texas High School Coaches' Association announces the Academic All-State Football teams. A point system based on GPA, college prep test scores and class rank determines the Elite Team, First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention.
Four Loboes were placed on those lists for the 2007
football season.
To qualify for the nomination, these outstanding student athletes are required to meet the following criteria: a GPA of 92 or better including grades 9-12 and the first six weeks of the current year; team membership in good standing and good moral character.
Tanner Owens, #10 and senior son of Mickey and Laure Owens, was the only Lobo to be named to the distinguished First Team.
Evan Hemingway was awarded Second Team recognition. He is the son of Jana and Guy Heminway.
Along with sports and school, Heminway juggles a part-time job at Ace Hardware.
Clay Anthony, #21 and son of Cary and Cathy Anthony, received All- State Honorable Mention.
Anthony is also active in rodeo.
Julian Hernandez, #86, joined Anthony on the Honorable Mention list. Hernandez is the son of Loretta and Roy Hernandez.
