Monahans High Running Back Honored as 'Player of the Week'

MONAHANS  The Sewell Family of Dealerships recently awarded the Dallas Cowboys Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week Award for Division 3A to Monahans High running back Stephen Neel.

Only one winner per division is selected each week, making this a statewide honor.

Neel was selected for his performance on the field and his demonstration of leader ship on the team. He was honored at a Monahans High School pep rally on Friday, Sept. 28.

Larry Harp, with Sewell, presented a trophy to Neel, and a duplicate trophy will be displayed at  the school.

"High school football is an important part of West Texas, said Collin Sewell, President of the Sewell Family of Dealerships.

"It is an honor to recognize athletes for their contributions to the community."

The "Built Ford Tough Texas High School Player of the Week" program recognizes one high school student-athlete in six of the state's athletic classifications- 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and Private schools - every week of the regular season of the 2007 Texas high school football schedule.

Each player taking the field throughout the 2007 football season will have the opportunity to be nominated for Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week, simply by excelling in three categories:

Individual performance on the field, including significant statistics from the week's game, contribution to the team's success through their individual leadership abilities and performance off the field of play, including academic success and good community citizenship.

The award is the second statewide player-of-the-week recognition that Neel has been honored with.

Each week, only one athlete in the state of Texas is selected to receive the Dave Campbell Texas Football Player of the Week award.

Visitors to the host site, texasfootball.com, are given the opportunity to vote on the honoree.

Earlier in the season, Dave Campbell's Texas Football selected Neel as the Week 0 recipient.

Neel is a junior at Monahans High School and the son of Yvonne Acosta and Gilbert Neel.
