So close -  one point away

The Lady Loboes fell one point short of the Greenwood Lady Rangers on Monday night.  

The Ladies started the game strong with a 12-8 run, even though Greenwood scored the first basket.

Jacquelyn Hopkins sank 6 points within the first period.

In the second period, the Lady Rangers tried to keep up with the Lady Loboes by matching each shot, basket for basket.

However, the Lady Loboes still had their 4-point lead to pt the score at 26-22 at the end of the second period.

Field goals in the second came from Chelsea Cartwright, Lauren Fuentes, and Jenna Fann.  Catherine Cutbirth and Hopkins added more points with their free throws.

The Ladies extended the 4-point gap to a 6-point with their 19-17 run in the third.

Both Cutbirth and Hopkins scored baskets from the 3-point line.  Dina Ortiz and Fann helped with the scoring in the third.

However, in the fourth, the Lady Rangers gained a burst of speed to bring the game to a close ending.  Monahans had a 3-point lead up to the last 7 seconds of the game.  Both coaches used all their timeouts in the fourth trying to get an advantage over the other team.  Greenwood scored a field goal within seconds of the buzzer to win the game.

"It was a great game.  But now we know that Greenwood only has a couple of good scorers.  It will be better next time we play Greenwood," Coach Terry Hopkins said.

Fann led the Lady Loboes in scoring 20 points, while Hopkins racked up 15 points.  Ortiz scored 9 points, and Cartwright and Curbirth scored 7 points each.

this loss puts the Lady Loboes' district record at 2-1 and the season record at 4-8.

The Lady Loboes' next game will be Monday thru Wednesday at the Big Lake Tournament.  After the holiday break the Ladies will travel to Lamesa on Jan. 4 for their fourth district game.  The game will start at 6 p.m.
