Lady Loboes Clobber Presidio

The Lady Loboes stomped the Presidio Lady Devils 56-17 in their first district game on Monday night.

"It feels good that we won, but we still need work," Coach Terri Hopkins said.

In the first period, the Lady Loboes jump started the game with a 14-4 run.  Jacquelyn Hopkins laid up for the first 2 points within seconds of the tip off.

Hopkins scored two more baskets and Catherine Cutbirth brought 5points to the board early in the period.

Brianna Chaney and Chelsa Cartwright also scored before the first buzzer.  Monahans defense held Presidio to just 4 points in the first period.

In the second period, the Ladies widened the gap to 20 points, as Presidio was unable to get more than 2 field goals.

Jenna Fann sank 7 points, Hopkins racked up another 5 points and Cartwright scored 2 points in the second period.

In the third period, Presidio was able to put up 9 points; however, the Lady Loboes put up twice that to keep the vast lead.

Fann added 10 points while Chaney had 4 and Cartwright and Hopkins add 2 more points each to Monahans' score.

The Ladies' defense held strong into the fourth, as Presidio was unable to get on the board.

Nevertheless, Fann, Ortiz and Jacquelyn Hopkins tallied up 10 points total in the fourth for the Lady Loboes.

Monahans' overall shooting during the game was 24/74 or 33%.

Top scorers were Jenna Fann with 21 points and Jacqueline Hopkins who put up 15 points in the game.

Fann had 2 steals and 14 rebounds with 5 offensive and 9 defensive.

Jacqueline Hopkins had 6 blocks and 14 rebounds with 6 offensive and 8 defensive.

Even though the Ladies had a good game the coaches felt there is always room for enhancement.

"We were open on the baseline a little to much, so we need to what on that," Coach Hopkins said.

Coach Hopkins went on to say that they have improved with each game they have played and will keep improving.

"I feel like we will be a solid team by the second time around of playing district," Terri Hopkins said.

In the basketball district schedule, the varsity teams will play district opponents twice. All district games will be counted in determining the district champion.

The next game for the Lady Loboes will be Friday, Dec. 17 against Pecos in in their second district game.  The game will start at 7:30 p. m. in Pecos.

Afterwards, the ladies will be back home for a game against Greenwood on Tuesday, Dec. 21.  The game will start at 7:30 p. m. at the Jerry Larned Sports.
