The Sweetwater Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady
Loboes 65-33 in a Bi-District game on Monday night to end the Lady basketball
season.
I thought the girls played one of their better defensive games during the first half last night. They really played hard and intensity, Coach Terri Hopkins said.
The Lady Loboes started the scoring with a 3 - pointer and a field goal from Jacquelyn Hopkins. However, the Lady Mustangs put 13 points on the board in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lady Mustangs scored the first two baskets within the opening seconds. Sweetwater ended the first half adding 11 points.
Jordan Latham scored a basket just seconds before the buzzer to bring Monahans to 19 points, just six points behind Sweetwater.
We didn't handle Sweetwater's pressure on the ball well. We didn't get a lot of shots off, too many turnovers, Coach Hopkins said.
In the third, the Lady Loboes managed to get 5 points on the board while the Lady Mustangs scored 18 points.
The Lady Mustangs kept the momentum going against the Lady Loboes by adding 19 points in the fourth period Monahans managed 11 points.
I think we exceeded our expectations this year being really young overall, and I see great potential for next year. We will spend a lot of time in off-season working on fundamentals and things will only get better Coach Hopkins said.
