The Monahans Lady Loboes followed a solid performance from the Sandhills tournament by blasting the Presidio Lady Devils 56-36, to open District 3-3A play Tuesday.

The Green traveled to the border city and collected the first district win of the young season, with a outstanding team effort.

"I thought that was the best game we have played all season," Coach Treasure Thaggard said.  "It's been difficult to get it (new play schemes) all out there in such a short time, but we showed a lot of improvement."

Monahans (2-7 Season, 1-0 District) was led by Catherine Cutbirth and Dina Ortiz, with each scoring a game high 13 points.  Jordan Latham also finished in double figures posting 11 points against PHS.

"They were on fire. Everyone got to play and picked up court experience," Thaggard said.  "It allowed us to put different people on the court and find some chemistry."

Lauren Fuentes added 7 points, Kym Madrid and Candace Swarb each scored 5 points, and Chelsea Cartwright had 2 points to account for the remainder of MHS' scoring.

Ortiz sank two three-pointers in the game, and Cutbirth drained the net once from outside the circle.

The Lady Loboes were 15 of 23 from the free throw line.
