District 2-3A has released results for district basketball honors.  Out of 14 spots, including honorable mentions, the Lady Loboes boast half of the standings.  Pecos and Presidio each have three players in the district team, and Fort Stockton has one.

Catherine Cutbirth of Monahans and Adriana Armendariz of Pecos tied for the district MVP.  Dina Ortiz was named the Defensive MVP.

Also making the all-district team are Jordan Latham, Lauren Fuentes, and Bethany Willmon.  Both honorable mentions, Candice Cutbirth and Kellie Almanza, are also from Monahans.

The Lady Loboes' district honors are icing on the cake for the 2007 district champs, who played Thursday night after a bye into the area round of the playoffs.  The team faced the Seminole Maidens at the Odessa Sports Center.

Despite a big loss to the Maidens earlier this year, the area championship still seemed attainable for the Loboes at half-time.  The Ladies had just lost the lead after a scoring run by Seminole, which put the Maidens in a 23-17 lead going into the third quarter.

Seminole got away from Monahans in the second half.  The ladies were only able to score twice for five points in the entire third quarter, including a three-pointer from Dina Ortiz.  Meanwhile, the Maidens scored 16 points, making the score 22-39, Seminole leading, at the end of the third quarter.

Monahans turned up the defense in the fourth quarter, allowing only eight points for Seminole.  The Maidens posed a special challenge by outsizing the Ladies, and despite some good passing in the final quarter, the shots just weren't falling for Monahans.  The game ended the season for the Lady Loboes, who took a 26-47 loss to the Maidens.
