The Lady Lobo varsity basketball team headed to Fort Stockton Friday night for a tiebreaker against the Pecos Eagles, and the Lady Loboes emerged victorious.  The game decided the winner of the district 2-3A district title.

The Eagles took a three-point lead early in the game.  The Lady Loboes tallied up three fouls compared to Pecos' one.  A three-pointer from Eagle Jamine Rayos widened the Pecos lead to 11-5, the score at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter remained scoreless until Catherine Cutbrith scared a two-point field goal about halfway into the period.  Pecos went on to score five points in the second quarter while Monahans scored 10.  Six of those points came from Lauren Fuentes, who shot a late three-pointer.  Catherine Cutbirth scored four field-goal points, which made the halftime score 16-15, whit Pecos leading by a single point.

In the third quarter, Jordan Latham scored a two-point field goal to put Monahans in the lead 17-16.  Pecos scored two points to take back the lead.  The one-point lead bounces back and forth between teams for much of the third quarter.  Finally, a free-throw from Bethany Willmon and a field-goal from Catherine Cutbirth tied the game at 22.  Dina Ortiz's free-throw shots went in the basket, which gave the Lady Loboes a 25-22 lead.  By the end of the third quarter, Pecos had scored a point from a free-throw, making the score 25-23, Monahans' lead.

Pecos scored five point in the final quarter, compared to 11 from Monahans.  Fuentes scored three points, for a total of 13 in the game, making her the high scorer of the night.  Following was Cutbirth, who scored two points in the quarter and 10 in the game.  Also scoring in the fourth quarter were Ortiz, Almanza, and Willmon, each with two points.  The final score was Monahans 36, Pecos 28.

The Lady Loboes are now the district 2-3A champions.  The next round of the playoffs is bi-district, which the Lady Loboes get to skip on bye straight into the area round.  The outcome of a bi-district game between districts 3 and 4 will determine the next opponent for Monahans.
