The Lobo Boys' golf team took the first round lead in the District competition in Pecos on Wednesday with a team score of 302.  Lead by Victory Calzada and Joe Joe Birdwell, the Loboes took a three-shot lead over Lamesa.

Birdwell shot 73, Cory Petree shot 79, Chad Gray shot 81, and Shelton Burnett shot 84.

But the man of the day was Victory Calzada who carded a three under par 69 and shot a hole-in-one on the par three hole #16.  Calzada leads all players in the district medallist race, and Birdwell is tied for second place with a player from Lamesa.

The JV team shot scores of 85 by Seth Howard: 86 by Jeremy Brown, 90 by Bo Rose, 93 by Justin Ochoa and 99 by Timmy Fuentes.  Other individuals playing were Tyler Watson (88), Lee Martinez (100) and Justin Dominguez (111).

"We had a great day Wednesday in Pecos.  The guys put together the round we've been looking for; 302 is a total to be proud of," said Coach Burnett.  Victor having a hole-in-one was a major highlight of the day.  Victor's 69 is the lowest score we've had in a long time.  He's worked hard on his game, and his shot game played a big part in the great score."

"I know Joe Joe was disappointed with his score of 73 because he played really good and ended up with a couple of bad holes, but 73 went a long way in putting us in the leading spot for this tournament."

"Corey Petree finally broke the 80-mark with a 79, and he just keeps improving every week.  We set up a shoot out for next week in Midland, Lamesa played really well Wednesday also and we have to finish the district matches in Fort Stockton, so no lead is safe at this point."

"It's important to go back out next week a take one shot at a time and put together another round like we did in Pecos."
