The MHS Varsity golf team played their last preseason tournament in Lamesa on Wednesday.  The team finished the tournament in second place behind Lubbock Trinity and one shot ahead of the host team and district rival Lamesa.

Victor Calzada led the Loboes with a great round with 78, followed by Joe Joe Birdwell, and Shelton Burnett both with 83 and Chad Gray and Cory Petree both with scores of 84.

"The guys really played hard under some tough conditions in Lamesa last week.  We started the round in 33 degree weather with about a 15 mile-an-hour wind, and the temperature never rose above 39 the entire day," said Coach Burnett.  "Victor shot his round of 78 with a 41 on the first nine and turned the back only one over par (37) to complete a great preseason. You always hate to say your team is coming together at the right time because of those superstitious feelings, but things are really looking good going into District competition this week in Pecos. We have three district matches in the next three weeks and I look forward to the work these Loboes have put forth paying off."
