The boys' golf team finished district play in second place after a windy Friday in Pecos.  After a fruit basket turnover day, the Eagles came out on top when the dust cleared, while the Loboes finished in second.  Fort Stockton, who was the lead going into round three, fell to third.

The Loboes that will represent Monahans and district 2-3A in the regional tournament are seniors Shelton Burnett and Cory Petree, junior Dustin Ochoa, sophomore Tyler Watson and freshman Rex Rose.  Cory Petree (78-81-95) and Rex Rose (88-78-88) finished district play tied after three rounds with a total score of 254.  Tyler Watson trailed by only one shot with a total of 255 (87-81-87).  Justin Ochoa finished with a 256 total (83-87-87), and Shelton Burnett shot 258 (91-78-89).

Members of the second team that finished in fourth place were Anthony Armendariz with a three-day total of 255 (85-81-87), Kevin Coldewey who scored 273 (88-89-96), Jeremy Brown who finished with 281 (96-86-99), Bo Rose who shot 284 (89-94-101) and Timmy Fuentes who finished with a total of 287 (93-98-96). Two other individuals that played all three tournaments were Garrett King, finishing with a total of 291 (97-94-100), and Janero Fuentes, who shot 306 (102-88-116).

The team totals in the end were Pecos 1001, Monahans A 1004, Fort Stockton 1011, and Monahans B 1085.

"It's hard to believe that the home course advantage worked so well for the home team each week," said Coach David Burnett, who was surprised that Pecos took the lead on Friday.  "I felt like we would make a move on Fort Stockton on a neutral site and take over that first place position, but I really did not expect Pecos to play as well as they did.  The weather conditions were very tough, and I felt like our team for the most part played pretty good.  I was proud they didn't let windy conditions take them completely out of their game.  We were disappointed in falling dust three shots short of the district championship, but we are glad we have the chance to go back to the regional tournament again this year and have another shot at Pecos, as well  as a shot at going back to Austin.  I'm really proud of these group of Loboes.  They have worked hard to get to this point this year," he stated.

Regional 1-3A golf competition will be in Odessa on April 23 and 24.
