The Monahans Sandhills Boys Golf Tournament was a great success this past weekend.  The local boys team finished in fourth place but showed signs of bright things to come.

Justin Ochoa lead the Loboes with scores of 88 and 75 for a two day total of 163, placing him in the Top ten for the tournament.  Timmy Fuentes finished second with scores of 80 and 88, followed by Tyler Watson  87 and 84.  Anthony Armendariz, Garrett King and Kevin Coldewey finished with scores of 175 (90 -85), 177 (92-85), and 180 (88-92) respectively.

Andrews was the tournament champion, followed by Odessa Permian JV, Third place went to last year's champion Midland Trinity.

"I was pleased with the overall effort these guys put forth this weekend, I felt like at some point in every one of their rounds each player had to make an adjustment to run their score around and they did, " said Coach David Burnett.

"Justin came back from a bad round on Friday and played great on Saturday, Timmy played great on Friday and started off pretty bad on Saturday but in the middle turned it around to finish a lot better than he started off.  Tyler made several runs of pars after having a bad hole or two that showed he is going to fight back when he gets in trouble, and after a rough start Anthony came back on Saturday to shoot a score of 85 which is where I hoped he would be at this time of the year.

"Kevin Struggled with a few holes but played pretty good most of the time.  Garrett played as a medalist this weekend and turned in a good round on Saturday.

Burnett is pleased with the team's showing, especially for this point in the season.

"I thought we did pretty good for our first tournament, we were in sixth place after the round on Friday and came back to beat Midland JV and district rival Fort Stockton on Saturday to move up to fourth place at the end of the tournament."

This week the Lobo team will travel to Austin to play in an invitational tournament hosted by Andrews.
