Lobo and Lady Lobo Golfers Swing Regional Berths

Monahans golf has swung three teams into the Region I tournament after the final round of district play at the Ward County Golf Course on Tuesday.  The Lobo A team placed first with a total score of 985.  The Lady Lobo A and B teams finished in first and second place, and will both advance to the next round.

Shelbye Hill was the district's top medalist with a firm 13 stroke lead.  She is followed by teammates Jordan Jernigan and Courtney Rutledge in second and third place.  They had respective totals of 231, 244, and 245.

Justin Ochoa and Kevin Coldewey placed second and third in medalist standings.  The had respective scores of 244 and 246.

The rules allow the top two finishers who are not on the top two teams to advance to the regional tournament.  This allowed Garrett King to earn a regional berth with a 249.

"I am really proud of all our golfers, this year has been a lot of fun and the last month these young men have really played some very good golf.  I expect them to take this step to regionals in stride and continue on our winning ways.  We've got a chance to make that step to the state tournament now we need to take advantage of the opportunity," said David Burnett, boys golf coach.
