Brin takes First, MHS golfers second in Stockton
February 27, 2004

Braxton Brin showed his experience as a Lobo senior, keeping his wits when the weather turned bad and turning in 75-73 to win the Fort Stockton Invitational golf tournament by five shots last weekend.

Brin anchored a MHS team that finished second only Midland Lee's JV squad.  Monahans fired a 312-341 for the silver medals.  The entire field, except for Brin, showed the effects of the chilly, windy weather in the second round Saturday.

Joe Joe Birdwell came in with a 78-89, Bobby Burkholder shot 82-87, J.W. Burnett had 79-97, and Victor Calzada carded 80-91.

"I thought the team played pretty well on Friday," said Coach David Burnett.  "The scores Saturday were a little disappointing.  We held on for second place, but I really expect this team to play better in any conditions."

The JV Loboes play in a weather-shortened event in Andrews last week, finishing forth. Isaac Nabarrette let the squad with 41, followed by Jerry Heflin and Shelton Burnett at 47, Chad Gray at 49, and Cory Petree with a 61.  T

he varsity team travels to Midland this weekend for the always competitive Tall City Tournament, played at Midland Country Club and Nueva Vista.
