Lady Lobo Golfers Vie For State Championship

The Lady Lobo golf teams is headed to state for the first time in four years, after placing second in the region. Monahans defeated last year's qualifier, Snyder, by a comfortable 17 strokes, to claim the state berth.

Andrews took first place, defending their 2007 regional championship, leading Monahans by nine.

Shelbye Hill led the team as the only top- 10 medalist from Monahans. She placed seventh overall with a 152 two- day total.

Making up the Monahans A, and in preparation for a state tournament, are Shelbye Hill (71-81 152), Jordan Jernigan (78-82 160), Courtney Rutledge (81-80-161), Victoria Moore (78-88 166) and Allison Parks (82-87 169).

Meanwhile, the Monahans B team placed eighth overall with a 707 total. Making up the B team are Erin Fisher (82-91 173), Quen Carter (84-96 180), Brittany West (85-90 175), Rachel Santiago (88-94 182) and Amy Rose (88-93 181).

Team Totals: 2. Monahans A, 308- 330 638; 8. Monahans B, 339-368 707.

The Ladies have two weeks to prepare for the state tournament, which takes place May 8 and 9 in Austin.
