The Monahans A team took an 11 stoke lead after the first round of competition in the district match held in Fort Stockton on Wednesday. The Monahans B team also did very well shooting a team score of 338 to put them in a tie with Fort Stockton's A team for second place in the team standings.
The individual scores for the teams were: Rex Rose 80, Justin Ochoa 81, Anthony Armendariz 81, Tyler Watson 85, and Kevin Coldewey 85.
The B Team scores were Cameron Boyd 79, Garrett King 83, Wade Roark 87, Timmy Fuentes 89, and Heath Haynes 96.
"I was very excited with outcome in this tournament. Fort Stockton handed us a pretty good defeat last week in their invitational, but our Loboes responded and came back determined to avenge that loss," said Coach Burnett. "That is the most consistent we have played as a team this year. We have had several players shoot better individual rounds but the whole team played better Wednesday.
"I felt like our B Team could compete for a shot at getting out as the second place team in the district and they put themselves in position to do just that."
"We need to go over there and take care of business with both teams and have ourselves in a position to come home for the final round and use our home course for our advantage," said Burnett. "With the three tournaments behind us we now need to go finish the job and bring the district titles back to Monahans."
