Monahans hosts powerlifting

The 8th Annual Monahans Powerlifting Meet was held Saturday with good results for both Monahans and Grandfalls.
There were 15 schools in attendance for a total of 182 lifters.
Monahans had 16 lifters and Grandfalls brought 3 lifters with them.
Each lifter was weighted before the match to determine which division they would compete in.
Heather Schuler lofted a total of 455 lbs with 170 lbs in squat, 75 lbs in bench press and 210 lbs in dead left in the same division.
Erin Garcia picked up 175 lbs in squat, 95 lbs in bench press and 215 in dead lift to total 485 for the 165 lbs weight division, Kyla Fuentes lifted a total of 350 with 130 lbs from squat, 75 in bench press and 145 lbs form dead lift.
In the boys' 114 lbs weight division, Kelton Mitchell placed second with a total of 495 lbs with 175 lbs in squat, 120 lbs in bench press and 200 lbs in dead lift.
In the 123 division, Pablo Jiminez claimed third with 250 lbs in squat, 115 lbs in bench press, and 124 lbs in dead lift bringing a total of 605 lbs.
In the 132 division Andrew Arrendondo lifted 240 in squat, 135 in bench press and 265 in dead lift while tying Noel Ice for third.
In the 148 division, Rawley Ice took fifth place with a 280 in squat, 185 in bench press and 345 in dead lift for the total of 810.
Cody Anthony was just 10 lbs away from Rawley Ice with his 300 in squat, 150 in bench press and 350 in dead lift. Russell Covington was also in the 148 division. Covington lifted 280 in squat, 155 in bench, and 265 in dead lift bringing a total of 700 lbs.
In the 181 division, Griffin Ice narrowly missed fifth place with his total of 1005, 390 from squat, 210 from bench press, and 405 in dead lift.
Josh Rodriguez lifted 350 in squat, 170 in bench press and 330 in dead lift bringing his total to 850 in that division.
In the super heavyweight, Michael Murphree claimed second place with his total of 1200 with 460 from squat, 240 from bench and 500 in dead lift.
Justin Parks picked up fourth place with 1145, 415 in squat, 280 in bench press and 450 in dead lift in the same division.
The Lobo lifter will travel to Odessa for their next meet on January 29.
