Monahans will send at least four girls to the Region I Powerlifting meet this weekend in Clyde.  This is a record number for the Lady Loboes, who had an all-time high of 11 lifters in the 2008 season.

Senior Driana Sida, Sophomore Ambre Vanderburg, and Freshmen Adriana Rendon and Moran Haynes will represent Monahans on Saturday.  Kembra Mitchell, who qualified for State last year, has also qualified for the Regional Meet, but is awaiting doctor's orders to lift this Saturday.

"There were more girls lifting this year than there ever have been at one time (in Monahans)," said Coach Fred Howard, who heads up the girls' powerlifting program and credits afternoon workout as the reason for the increase in participation.

"Coach Mitchell and Coach Mack (McWilliams) have done a fabulous job building the program here in Monahans, but they lift at 5:30 every morning.    You're not gonna' get a girl to do that," said Howard.  "We're really excited about going.  It's a neat feeling."
