New boys track coach Rusty Roark really isn't all that new.  Although this is Roark's first year at MHS, it is his second year in the school district.  Last year Roark coached and taught at Walker Junior High.

Roark, who also coaches varsity football, listed a District Championship in both football and track as his goal this year.  His last job was at Rice Consolidated High School where he served as the Head Football Coach.

During his high school years at MHS, Roark was considered a jock.  He participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track.  Roark excelled in football continuing his playing days at Texas Tech University.

Roark showed his sensitive side in high school by participating in choir and being the senior class president.  He was also a ladies man, whose funniest memory involves too many women.

"My girlfriend and the girl I wanted to be my girlfriend were both waiting for me following our homecoming football game," Roark said.  "I had to think fast to get through that situation."

Roark met his wife while dating her best friend.  He and Tonya now have three children; Alyssa 15, Wade 13, and Cason 4.

Roark chose this career after growing up around it.  "My dad was a teacher/coach," he said.  "I admire him greatly."

The younger coach hopes to influence the students at MHS by letting them know the greatness of success.  He uses his exciting and emotional style of coaching to motivate his athletes.

Coach Roark says his favorite movie is "Dumb and Dumber".  His favorite food is "TEJANO".  His favorite music is rock and rap and his hobbies are hunting and fishing.

Roark's favorite vehicle is his beloved 1986 Ford Ranger that has 209,000 miles and counting.

"No matter how bad things seem to be," Roark advises.  "Someone else has it worse."
