Kade Burns admits he misses his family and friends in Ballinger but is eager to make new friends in Monahans.

"We miss our friends,' Burns said.  But we look forward to meeting new friends here.  We have met many people here already and they all seem very friendly."

Burns is one of several coaches to accompany Coach Owens from Ballinger.  He was born in Brady and graduated from Mason High School.

As the son of educators, Burns knew that he was going to be a coach.

"It is all I have ever known," Burns said.  "It's like the only profession that I even wanted to do.  I really enjoy competition."

Burns considers himself organized and energetic.  He doesn't tolerate mistakes and works quickly to fix them.  He also is willing to praise a good job.

"My favorite thing about coaching is being around kids everyday," Burns said.  "And I love the feeling you get after winning a game."

While at Ballinger, Burns was very close to family and friends but he already is a big fan of MHS.

"The kids are very respectful and there is a tremendous amount of support from the community toward them and the school," he said.

Burns, who was voted MVP of his high school, said that his worst moment as a teacher happened while student teaching.

"I had to tackle two people trying to run away from the Principal to leave campus," he said.

Football has always been Burns' favorite activity but in high school he also participated in basketball, golf, PALS, FFA, and FCA.

"My favorite quote is 'If you think you can or you think you can't, you are probably right'," Burns said.

The new coach hopes to influence the students of MHS in a positive way.

"I hope they will try to do their best in all they do and always strive to make good decisions and do what is r i g h t, " Burns said.
