New football coach Cory Spivey appears to be a quiet and stern History teacher, but what doesn't show is his competitive spirit that sometimes causes him to be a little more vocal.

"Oh, he can get loud," Stephen Richardson said.  "If you aren't doing things right, he will let you know in a hurry.  And everyone in the area knows too!"

Spivey comes to MHS from Ballinger where he coached along with Coach Owens, Burns, and Golson.  Prior to that, he assisted Owens in Rankin.

He was born in San Antonio but graduated from high school in Llano.  After attending Tarleton State University, Spivey took his first coaching job at Burnet.

"I grew up in a coaching and teaching family," Spivey said.  "I always knew it was what I would do."

Spivey coaches Varsity and JV football, junior high basketball, and high school track.  He teaches U.S. History and World History.

Spivey and his wife, Amanda, have two sons, Chaz and Chase.  He is passionate about his family and job and considers MHS a great place.

"My most embarrassing moment was getting stuck in the elevator on my first day here," Spivey said.

In the classroom and on the field Coach Spivey commands respect.  His pet peeve is disruptive students, while his hobbies include hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
