Monahans started the scoring as Ashton Jarrett batted in the run of Brianna Chaney in the top of the first inning. Greenwood settled in and ended the Lady Lobo side. Raquel Hawkins took the mound for the green and retired the first two Ranger batters. Lupe Navarrette snagged a line for the third out, and the Ladies lead 1-0 after the first inning.
The Lady Loboes made some uncharacteristic errors in the second inning, allowing Midland to score two runs. "We made some critical mistakes in the second inning that we just could not over come," Coach Kasey Kinney said. Greenwood's 2 run second inning would be the games final points.
"The game should have been 0-0 in the seventh inning because both teams made errors to score the runs," Kinney added. "We put runners on base after Midlands errors, but only after two outs, we just could not capitalize when we needed to."
Raquel Hawkins pitched a two hitter with 11 strike outs, but Greenwood took Hawkins out of the line up by walking her at the plate." My girls got a wake up call by realizing that they can't depend on one player clutch hit and make everything better" Kinney said." Everyone has to produce."
The Lady Loboes are back home Tuesday March 29, to host Lamesa. "We hope to gain back some of our drive against Lamesa and started the second half of district with a bang, especially from our bats," added Coach Kinney.
