Lady Loboes bounce Seminole maidens 15-2

The Monahans Lady Loboes put together a complete team effort Friday night in Seminole, battering Seminole15-2 in a key District 3-AAA game on the road.

In top of the first inning Seminole retired the Lobo lead-off batter, before walking Stacie Fuentes.  On a 2-2 count to Heather Schuler, Fuentes advanced to second with a stolen base.  Schuler was unable to on base, and the Ladies were facing two outs with Raquel Hawkins at the plate.

Maiden pitcher Jeannie Morales fired a wild pitch back to the screen, and Fuentes safely moved to third base.  Morales walked Hawkins, giving MHS runners on all corners.

On a high 2-2 pitch to Lupe Navarrette, the Ladies completed a double steal by advancing Hawkins to second and Fuentes put the first point on the board with a steal home.

With the throw home Raquel moved to third base safely.  Morales recorded her second strike out of the inning, stranding the Lobo runner.

Then the ladies took the field to face the Maidens in the bottom of the first Coach Kinney got her first glimpse of what the night would hold for her troops.

Sophomore pitcher Heather Schuler took the mound for MHS and blasted the Maiden lineup in order striking out the first three batters of the game.

Leading 1-0, Ashton Jarrett was awarded first place after being hit by a Morales pitch to begin the second inning.

Forcing a full count, Dina Ortiz waited patiently and received a base on balls.  With runners on base, Morales sent a high pitch to Brittany Slade and the base runners moved to second and third.  Morales hit her second Lady Lobo of the inning, and Slade went to first, loading the bases.

Freshmen Bailey Marcum displayed superb patience at the plate during the next bat, and took a free pass to first.  The base on balls allowed Jarrett to walk in and give the Ladies a 2-0 lead.

Feeling the pressure, Morales forced Brianna Chaney to pop up to short stop for the first out in the inning.

With the bases still loaded, Fuentes sliced a two run RBI single between the short stop and third base, scoring Ortiz and Slade.  On a high 2-1 pitch to Schuler, Marcum scored from third, and Stacie moved over to third base.

Schuler went to first by way of a walk, giving the ladies runners on the Corners again.

Raquel Hawkins showed bunt, and Schuler stole second.  Hawkins later made contact, scoring Fuentes with an RBI grounder to shortstop and MHS went up 6-0.

Struggling in the top of the second inning, Maiden pitcher Morales put Navarrette on base with a walk, giving the Ladies runners on first and third.  Monahans batted around as Jarrett came to the plate for the second time in the inning.

On an attempted pickoff of Schuler at third, Navarrette alertly stole second base.  With a 2-2 count to Jarrett, Schuler stole home giving Monahans a 7-0 lead.  Jarrett picked up the walk, but Morales ended the inning with a strikeout.  The Loboes left one runner on base. Seminole sent lead off batter Kimber Johnson to the plate in the bottom of the second inning. Johnson put Schuler's pitch in play, and advanced to second on a misplayed ball in right field.

With a runner in scoring position, Schuler went to work, picking up strikeouts, numbers four and five for the night.

With two outs, Laura McManus belted the pitch to Marcum and Bailey made a spectacular play snagging the ball for the our at first to end the inning.

The Lady Loboes lead off the top pf the third inning with Brittany Slade getting a hit between the first and second baseman.  Marcum then put down the sacrifice bunt to move Slade to second.

Brianna Chaney hit one hard down to third base, beating the throw and giving the Ladies runner on the corners.

Facing Fuentes, the Loboes used the double steal to advance Chaney to second and the play ended, Chaney stood safely on third base.

Rattled, Morales hit Stacie Fuentes wit the pitch, and an error by the catcher allowed the ever-alert Chaney to score.  The Mean Green owned a 9-0 lad with only one out.

Heather Schuler popped up to the pitcher, but Morales could not field the ball. The runner had to hold up on the fly ball, and Seminole was able to make the force out at second for out number two. 

With the battle at the plate getting tougher for Seminole, Raquel Hawkins smashed an RBI double to center field scoring Schuler, giving the Ladies a 10-0 advantage.

With a full count to Navarrette, Morales' pitch was in the dirt moving Hawkins to third as Lupe dew the walk.  Seminole ended the inning with a throw out at first that stranded two Lobo runners.

Reaching the bottom of the third inning, Schuler sat down the leadoff batter with a strike out number six on the night.

Patty Ortiz fell victim to Hawkins glove, as the MHS shortstop scooped up the ball and fired it to Marcum for the second out.  Stacie Fuentes ended the Seminole side of the inning with a throw to first, and the Maidens went down in order.

Seminole send Jordan Hopkins to the mound in relief of Morales in the top of the fourth inning.  Dina Ortiz wnet to work right away, slapping a hit down the third base line.

Hopkins caught her breath and struck out the next two Lobo batters. Brianna Chaney added an RBI to her season stats with a single over second base to scored Ortiz. Fuentes sent the pitch to third basemen Mcmanus, and Seminole got the force out of Chaney at second to end the inning trailing 11-0.

Facing elimination in early innings, Seminole came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth with a new attitude.

Sara Thompson tagged a ball into left field giving the Maidens a lead off runner. Morales stepped up and followed with a single over second base.

With two runners on base and a full count, Kimber Johnson sent a stinger off the glove of Fuentes into center field to score Thompson. Maiden centerfielder Nicky Tackett followed up with a smash between first and second base, scoring Morales and closing the score to 11-2

Coach Kinney called time out to settle the Green, and  Schuler returned to the mound.

Heather gave it her best shot striking out Kelsey Blaylock, before loading up the bases as McManus hit to second and beat the throw to first loading the bases again. The Loboes took another time out and sent in Raquel Hawkins to gain control.

Hawkins did not give the Maidens a chance, striking out Ortiz and Kaitlin Rich to end the fourth inning.

"Raquel did a great job coming in to end the inning, not being entirely warm," Coach Kasey Kinney said. Seminole left the bases loaded, but picked up 2 runs and 2 hits.

The top of the fifth inning was all business for the Ladies in green.

Shuler lead off with a walk, and Hawkins followed by reaching first as left fielder Kelsey Blaylock dropped the ball.

Navarrette hit the ball sharply to third, and the Maidens were able to get the force out at third base.

Ashton Jarrett banged a Hopkins pitch past the short stop, scoring Hawkins and moving Lupe to second.

Dina Ortiz was hit by a pitch and loaded the bases for the Loboes.

Kaitlyn Mitchell stood in at the plate, and on an overthrown ball Navarrette scored from third. Mitchell later received a base on balls loading up the bases again.

Bailey Marcum was hit by the pitch on her trip to the plate, and Jarrett walked in giving the Loboes a 14-2 lead. Brianna Chaney's hit scored Ortiz for the final run of the game.

Hawkins closed out the bottom of the fifth striking out the top of the Seminole lineup. "Raquel came in and did a fabulous job of ending the game by striking out five in a row." The game ended after five complete innings of play 15-2, as the 10 run rule was in effect.

"I believe we played really well," Kinney added after the game. "We had fun playing tonight and had a great run at the plate. Seminole was much better than the last time we saw them, and they picked up their game in the fourth inning."

The Lady Loboes move to 6-1 in District 3-AAA play, and travel to Fort Stockton Tuesday night. "I believe our team is back on track and that we will continue to succeed," Kinney said. Fort Stockton will be tough, but I believe we are ready for them."
