The MHS softball field was wide open to the prevailing wind during the Lady Loboes' round robin scrimmage.
The wind did not seem to affect the Ladies as they put their best foot forward against the opposing teams.
Each team played for one hour,
regardless of innings.
"I was very impressed with what I saw. I got to really get a good idea as to what my players could do at the plate. Lupe Navarette hit a homerun against Monterrey. Raquel Hawkins, Bailey Marcum, and Lana Santiago really had good batting against all three teams. My pitchers did well against all of the teams and you can't beat the play against 5A teams. We would have done better had we not had a few errors here and there and if my players were completely well. I had a few that were fighting off colds and didn't feel well," Coach Kasey Kinney said.
The Ladies took on Lubbock Monterey for the first hour, Bailey Marcum took control of the game early by hitting the ball to the fence to score and bring Raquel Hawkins home who was on first base.
In the next match-up, Permian came out hitting, but that did not stop the Ladies. Third baseman Lana Santiago caught a fly ball, taking two out in one play.
The Lady Loboes then took on Midland High for the final game. Midland proved to be a little tougher for the Ladies. However, the Ladies prevailed in the 3-2 game.
The JV Lady Loboes will travel to Crane for a scrimmage on Tues., Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. Both Varsity and JV teams will scrimmage against Odessa High and Permian in Odessa on Sat., Feb. 12. Starting time is to be announced.
