Lady Loboes Split
At
Andrews Tourney
The Monahans News, February 21, 2006
The Monahans Lady Lobo softball team split their two
games Thursday at the Andrews tournament, beating Alpine 12-1,
and dropping
their first game of the season to district rival Greenwood 9-2.
The tournament was scheduled to run through the weekend, but AISD officials suspended the remaining Friday and Saturday games late Thursday night.
Monahans (2-1) got off to a rough start with Greenwood, allowing seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Rangerettes were able to capitalize on MHS errors and bat-around in the inning.
Savannah Neely walked to lead off the inning, then drove in a run with a single to punctuate the big fourth inning for Greenwood.
Kaitlin Mitchell (0-1) took the loss for MHS.
Trailing 9-0, MHS scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Dina Ortiz had one of the Ladies' two hits in the game, picking up a double.
"We just made too many uncharacteristic errors in the fourth inning," MHS coach David Parker said. "Greenwood took advantage of what we gave them."
The Lady Loboes stormed back against Alpine, thrashing the Lady Bucks 12-1 to earn their second victory of the young season.
Eric Garcia highlighted the game with a home run, her second of the year that includes a smash against San Angelo Central earlier this month.
Monahans will host Alpine at the MHS softball complex. Tuesday evening at 5 pm.
