The Lady Lobo softball team traveled to Sweetwater Friday night. Despite a
four-one lead after the third inning, the Lady Mustangs were too much for the
Lady Loboes to hold off.
In the first innings, each team had one run, tying the score at 1-1. There were no runs for either team in the second inning. The third inning was the sweet spot for Monahans, when they made three runs, making the score 4-1. They held this lead thru the fourth inning, when Sweetwater came back to take the game. The Lady Mustangs scored four more runs in the game, making the score 5-4.
Kaitlin Mitchell and Lana Santiago each made three hits for the Lady Loboes. Kellie Almanza and Dina Ortiz each made two, and Heather Schuler made one. The four runs that came in were from Mitchell, Schuler, and two from Almanza. Mitchell pitched the entire game for Monahans. She faced 30 batters and allowed nine hits. There were two errors, two walks, and nine strikeouts.
The next game scheduled for the team is a home game against Midland Lee Tuesday night at 5 pm.
