Lady Loboes Pummel Presidio

The Lady Lobo softball team played Presidio on Tuesday night.  After a 26-0 against the Blue Devils in Monahans, Tuesday night's game was even more of a landslide for the Ladies, who won 36-1 in Presidio.

The Ladies had a commanding lead from the start with a 12-0 first inning.  In the next two innings, Monahans brought in nine more runs.  The fourth inning was a good as it got for Presidio, when the Ladies scored nothing, and the Blue Devils scored their lone run of the game.  The run must have insulted the Ladies' goose egg intentions, because they settled in and scored 15 runs in the fifth to end the game.

Monahans dominated Presidio across the board.  The Ladies had 20 hits, and only on error, while the Devils had only three hits and five errors.

Kaitlin Mitchell and Heather Schuler split the pitching.  Schuler, who pitched three innings, allowed no hits, no errors, no walks and seven strikeouts in nine batters faced.  Mitchell pitched three hits, two walks and three strikeouts in ten batters.

Monahans made 16 steal attempts, and were only caught on one form Catherine Cutbirth.  Lana Santiago and Kristi Wilson each stole twice, while Bailey Marcum, Kellie Almanza and Barbara Cota had one steal each. Presidio had no stolen base attempts.

Wilson led the game in rbi's, bringing in four runs on five hits.  Almanza and Ortiz doubled, and MHS junior Mitchell hit an-in-the-park grand slam.

"That was a pretty rough game to endure.  It's one of those games that we really don't learn anything from.  We just have to endure it," said Coach Parker.  He also said because of Pecos' loss to Fort Stockton, Monahans will clinch the district 2-3A championship in a win tonight over Fort Stockton with one round still remaining in district play.

Monahans will play Fort Stockton at home on Thursday, April 5 at 7pm.
