Monahans ended the district softball season
with another win, this time against Fort Stockton. The Ladies took the game one
inning at a time, ending it at 6-0.
The first inning was scoreless, but the ladies took an early 2-0 lead in the second. They scored a run in each of the next three innings, then came up with the final fun in the seventh.
Heather Schuler pitched the complete game shutout, giving up only one walk and striking out eight. In 29 batters, the Prowlers only came up with six hits.
The Lady Loboes hit 11 times against Stockton. Four of those hits came from catcher Dina Ortiz, who shows her skills on and behind the plate.
"Dina is as good as, if not better that any high school catcher in the state of Texas," Said Coach David Parker of star-catcher Ortiz, who came home three times in the game against Fort Stockton, once in a homerun.
Lana Santiago is also impressive at bat, and led the game in RBI's.
Santiago and Ortiz both doubled, as did Bertha Felan and Kellie Almanza. Barbara Cota, who plays second base, hit a triple to bring in one run.
"The best thing about the Stockton game was that we finished the season with a win and without losing a district game for the second year in a row. In the two years that I have been here, the girls have won 21 district games in a row," said Parker of his district 2-3A champs, who have given up a mere 12 runs in nine games the entire district season.
Tuesday, the Ladies will challenge themselves with a game against Odessa High.
"They are a really good 5A team, and it will be a good test for us," said Parker.
The Odessa High game will be the last game before playoffs, in which the Lady Loboes have a bye past Bi-district into Area. The game will be at Ratliff Stadium Complex in Odessa at 7 pm.
