The Lady Loboes remain undefeated in district
play after putting away Fort Stockton on Tuesday night. In the season's
first contest against the Prowlers, the Ladies brought in 16 runs, while holding
Fort Stockton to five.
After the first inning, the teams were tied 2-2. In the second inning, the Ladies pulled away to leave the Prowlers in the dust. By the end of the third inning, Monahans had a 9-3 lead. After a scoreless fourth inning, Monahans scored three in the fifth, while Fort Stockton brought in two. The score going into the sixth was 12-5, when the Ladies ended the game early and finished the inning 16-5.
"Fort Stockton got a few more hits and runs than we expected them to, but that's going to happen from time to time. Heather missed her location on a few pitches and they were able to capitalize on that," said Coach David Parker of winning pitcher Heather Schuler.
Schuler pitched four strike-outs, two walks, and allowed 11 hits in 28 batters faced.
"It wasn't her best pitching performance, but she will learn, rebounded from it and should be fine from here on out."
Monahans had seven steals in the game, versus Fort Stockton's one. Kaitlin Mitchell and Kellie Almanza each had two steals, while Bailey Marcum, Dine Ortiz, and Jeny Jarrett each stole once.
Kristi Wilson was the sole batter to hit a triple. She also had three RBI's off of two hits.
The Ladies had frequent doubles at bat. Pitcher Heather Schuler doubled twice. Ortiz, Mitchell, and Catherine Cutbirth each hit one double.
The Lady Loboes are now 3-0 in district, and have defeated every team in the four-team district 2-3A. Monahans defeated Pecos 12-1 earlier in the season at home, and will travel to Pecos for a second match-up on Friday at 5 pm.
