Swimmers Compete in
Pecos Thursday
The Monahans News ~~ 10-31-06
The Monahans Loboes swim team will hold a dual meet
against the Pecos Eagles Thursday afternoon in Pecos, a meet originally
scheduled for the Loboes' pool.
Coach Jay Thomas said his team originally was to have a meet in Pecos earlier this month, but it was cancelled, and the Loboes instead switched this Thursday's meet to Pecos, as final work is done on rehabilitating the Monahans pool. The Loboes will host their annual invitational meet on Nov. 17-18, after going to the Pecos Invitational on Nov. 10-11.
Thomas said Monahans was short several swimmers last weekend, when the team competed at the Big Spring Invitational. The boys placed ninth with 15 points, while the girls were 11th in their division, finishing with eight points.
The boys got a seventh place from Brandon Spinks in the 200-yard medley and the 100-yard butterfly; and a seventh from John Ray in the 100-yard backstroke and an eighth in the 100 fly for their points, while Steven Cole had a 15th in the 200 free and a 24th in the 100 free for the Loboes.
The girls had a 9th from Alex Dycus in the 100 freestyle and a 12th in the 100 free; a seventh from Aimee McBride in the 500 free and a 14th in the 200 free; a ninth from Lyndsey Chowning in the 100 backstroke and a 16th in the 200 free; a 15th from Rebekah Oyerbides in the 100-yard backstroke and a 19th in the 100 free. Monahans' girls also had two relay teams competing at Big Spring, with both the 200-yard medley team and the 200 freestyle relay team getting 11th place.
