Swimmers to Compete in Big Spring

From The Monahans News, October 20, 2006

Coach Jay Thomas said several of his swimmers will be participating in other extracurricular events this Saturday.  "I won't even have them with me.  They'll be at (UIL area) band and regional choir, whick is kind of hurting a bit," he said.

Monahans competed two weeks ago at the Lubbock Relays, where the girls scored 26 points.  "We got a late start getting into the water, because they were remodeling the pool.  So we didn't get in here as early as normal, and had to do some dry workouts."

Thomas said he'd only have three boys going to Big Spring this weekend, and only one back from last season, in John Ray.  "The other two are freshmen," he said.

On the girls' side, the Loboes will be in a little better shape for this weekend, in Lyndsey Chowing, Alex Dycus, Amy McBride, Rebecca Oyerbides, Abby Meek and Rachel Shrauner.

The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at the Big Spring YMCA pool.  Monahans' next meet will be a duel meet against Pecos on Nov. 2 at the Pecos High School Pool.
