Monahans Swimmers Host Invitational Meet

Monahans was host to over two dozen teams at the invitational swim meet held November 16-17.  San Angelo Central took first place in both the boys and girls divisions.

The Monahans boys placed sixth overall with 98 points.

Justin Dominguez, Reed Bowman, Brandon Spinks and John Ray placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay. The total time was 1:53.58.  

Jacob Robbins, Carlos Cueto, Brandon McGuire and Cody Smith placed 13th in the same race with a time of 2:19.58.

John Ray placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.00.

Justin Dominguez finished the 200-yard IM in 2:37.20, good for ninth place.

Monahans had three swimmers in the boys' 50-yard freestyle. Brandon Smith (25.30), Cyle Lynch (26.80) and Cody Smith (35.21) placed 13th, 20th and 48th, respectively.

Brandon McGuire placed 16th in the boys 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:21.75.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Reed Bowman finished sixth with a time of 56.48. Brandon Spinks came in 11th in 57.17 and Cyle Lynch was in 20th place with a time of 1:02.87.

Ray placed seventh in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:44.18.

The Lobo team of Brandon Spinks, Jacob Robbins, Reed Bowman and Johan Ray placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.64.

Justin Dominguez finished the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:12.61 and 12th place. Cody Smith finished in 23rd place in 1:35.57.

Bowman took the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.77, a full three seconds, ahead of second-place finisher Joshua Young of El Paso. Carlos Cueto place nineteenth in the race with a time of 1:24.38.

Cueto, McGuire, Robbins and Dominguez placed 11th in he 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:06.30.

The girls finished thirteenth as a team with 9 points.

Marilyn Bingham placed 13th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:33.39.

Brittany White placed 14th in the 200-yard IM in 3:07.98.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Taylor Garcia placed 19th while Morgan Haynes placed 30th.  Their respective times were 31.88 and 34.22.

In the girls 100-yard freestyle, Taylor Garcia placed 17th and Marilyn Bingham place 22nd.  Their times were 1:10,07 and 1:11.90. Morgan Haynes finished 36th in 1:18.83 and Crissy Wallace finished 39th in 1:20.14.

The relay team of Brittney White, Marilyn Bingham, Estefana Galindo and Taylor Garcia placed 13th in the 200yard freestyle with a finishing time 2:11.11.

Lyndsay Chowning came in 16th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:21.02.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Brittney White placed eighth and teammate Estefana Galindo placed 17th.  Their times were 1:32.07 and 1:39.91.

In the  400-yard freestyle relay, Taylor Garcia, Morgan Haynes, Crissy Wallace and Lyndsay Chowning placed 11th in a total time of 5:02.88.

This weekend, the Lobo swimmers will compete in the Fort Stockton Invitational Meet.

The action begins at 6 pm on Friday.
