JV Netters Walk Away With Team Tennis Title

The Monahans Junior Varsity tennis team dominated the JV tournament at the MHS Tennis Complex Tuesday, defeating second place Greenwood by 17 points.

The Lobo netters distanced themselves from the competition in the girls singles division, as Monahans claimed four of five positions in the medal standings for a total of 25 points.

Erin Coldewey and Amanda Chavez advanced to the finals to take the top two positions, while Dallas Ancira battled back to defeat Alyssa Rogers of Greenwood in the third place match.

Megan Galindo got off to a slow start, but quickly rebounded to run the tables and take home the singles consolation prize.

Steven Boden  gave MHS an additional five points by taking third place in the boys singles. 

The girls doubles division was also controlled by the Green, as the team of Amanda Chavez and Dallas Ancira advanced to the finals with fellow team mates Erin Coldewey and Megan Galindo.  MHS earned 18 total points by sending the two doubles teams to the finals.

The Loboes topped off an outstanding team performance with a mixed doubles championship.  Steven Boden and Dallas Ancira defeated Greenwood in the finals after winning the best of three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

It was a great opportunity for MHS to see where they stack up with Distritct 3-3 A competitors Greenwood and Pecos.
