Lady Loboes Excel in
Seminole

Monahans competed in the Seminole Tennis Tournament the
weekend of March 9. Participating schools were Brownfield, Buena Vista,
Crane, Greenwood, Kermit, Lakeview, Lamesa, Lovington, Monahans, Seminole, and
Snyder. The Lobo girls did especially well against the opposing teams in
both singles and doubles play.
Monahans' Tiffany Bean defeated Brownfield's Nicki Scoot. Snyder's Kim Fargason was Bean's next victim and lost in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, and 10-8 in tiebreaker. In Bean's next game against Candice Barnes of Lakeview, the girls were tied with one set, 5-7, 6-2. Bean defeated Barnes 11-9 in the tiebreaker. Buena Vista's Lauren Ivey beat Bean 6-2, 6-2, which put Bean in second place.
Ivey's first game was against Monahans' Madison Murray, when Murray was sent into consolation play. Murray defeated Snyder's Stacey Elam, and Loren Hess and Anna Lozoya, both of Lovington. All of Murray's victories came in two sets.
Justin Calder of Lovington Defeated Micheal Derrick of Monahans early in the tournament. Derrick then beat Greenwood's James Evans in two sets, 6-1 each. Derrick then lost to Cody Less from Synder, 6-0, 1-6, and 10-8 in tiebreaker.
Jennifer Rodriguez and Hanna Beth Cater played as a team in girls' doubles. Their first win came against the Lamesa team of Boles and Wilson in two sets, 6-4 each.
Rodriguez-Cater then turned away the Greenwood team of Crawford and Spann 6-4, 6-3.
When the Lakeview team of Mote and Raines faced Monahans, were outdone 6-3 and 6-1.
Rodriguez and Cater were finally defeated by Harlan and Ochoa of Snyder in two sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Andrew Orona and Liz Truex paired up for mixed doubles play. Aguilar and Powell of Snyder defeated Orona and Truex, 6-1, 7-6, and 6-4.
Monahans will host its next event at an invitational tournament March 23-24. Play begins at 8 am.
