Monahans Tennis Sweeps District 2-3A Division Titles

Monahans recently traveled to Fort Stockton for the 2008 district tournament. The team took medals in all events, including girls singles, boys singles, mixed doubles, boys doubles and girls doubles to win the highest honor for girls, boys and overall in District 2-3A.

In girls singles, Liz Truex  placed first, while Madison Murray took second.

Michael Derrick placed first in boys singles.

Loren Miller and Allen Marquez won gold in boys doubles, while Hollie Derrick and Laura Phipps won tip team in girls doubles.

In mixed doubles, John Witucki and Peggy Huber placed second. Matthew Gonzales and Nicol Eddings finished third.

"We have nine out of 16 possible entries advancing to regional, whereas Pecos has four and Fort Stockton has three," said Coach Josie McAnally.

Those nine entries will advance to the Region I Tournament April 23 and 24 at Odessa's Ratliff Tennis Complex.
