The Lobo tennis teams competed in the Regional
Team Tennis Tournament last week. They faced teams from three other
schools including Andrews, Brownfield and Pecos. Andrews was the only team
to defeat Monahans, who placed ninth and tenth overall.
In the first round, Monahans fell 7-10 to Andrews, losing the most games in boys' singles (1-6). Against Andrews, Michael Derrick was the only Lobo victor in boys' singles, defeating Richard Southern. In boys' doubles, Miller-Marquez defeated Wells-Melendez.
In girls' singles, Liz Truez, Hollie Derrick and Laura Phipps beat Atarah Payton, Cyan Scott and Tori Delgado of Andrews.
Monahans won one girl's doubles match with Derrick-Phipps defeated Scott-Smartt, and Witcuki-Huber beat Payton-Sanchez in mixed doubles.
The team loss to Andrews sent Monahans to the consolation side of the bracket, where they faced Brownfield, who lost to Fabens in the first round.
Monahans beat Brownfield 12-1, with only one loss in a boys' doubles match.
The Loboes then beat Pecos 16-2 in the final face-off.
The Tennis team will continue their year round work through the year, as individual competition is underway.
