Tennis Places Fourth in Andrews

Monahans Tennis Teams were in Andrews the weekend of February 8 to take fourth place overall behind Levelland, Big Spring and Andrews, respectively.  Taking the fifth thru eighth place finishes were Lubbock Trinity Christian, Fort Stockton, Pecos and Greenwood.

Girls singles
Liz Truex and Madison Murray placed second and third in girls singles.

Truex defeated Lindsey Hoffman of Andrews, Morgan Evans of Levelland and Skylar Strait of Lubbock before falling to tournament champion Kori Stark of Levelland.

Stark defeated Monahans' Madison Murray prior to the championship round.  En route, Murray beat Greenwood's Brittney Robinson and Emylee Trevino of Andrews.

Boys singles
Monahans' Damien Nichols defeated Cody Zamarripa of Pecos in the first round of play, but Levelland's Ryan Lawson sent him to the fifth-place bracket in the next game.  Nichols won the fifth place bracket by defeating Pierce Hardin of Lubbock and Nati Salamanca of Fort Stockton.

Michael Derrick beat Jonathon Womack of Big Spring and John Gardner of Levelland.  David Hinds of Lubbock put Derrick in the third-place match, where he lost to Levelland's Ryan Lawson for fourth place.

Boys doubles
The team of Miller and Marquez were sent to the consolation side of the bracket with an early loss to Magee and Rascon of Fort Stockton.  They then beat McLemore-Geries of Greenwood and Brode-Bowles of Big Spring before taking tenth place with a loss to Big Spring's Forest and Burleson.

Girls doubles
Two teams represented Monahans in girls doubles:  Derrick-Phipps and Richardson-Johnson.

Richardson-Johnson beat Fort Stockton's Santos-Navarette and Andrews' Delgado-Scott before losing to Hardin-Elder of Lubbock Trinity Christian.  The loss put the team in the third place match against Riddle-Womack of Big Spring, which Monahans won 8-6.

Richardson-Johnson lost their first round game to Fitzgerald-Yeary of Levelland, then fell to Elder-Lee of Lubbock.  The Monahans team got a win against Crawford-Spann of Greenwood, but lost in the next game to Rigdon-Raschke of Big Spring.

Mixed doubles
In mixed doubles, Witucki and Huber placed fifth with wins over Fugate-Martinez of Levelland and Palmer-Ray of Big Spring.  It was Chang-Gonzales of Big Spring that defeated Monahans to put them in the fifth place match.

Gonzales-Eddings were defeated by Ritcherson-Paxton of Andrews, and lost the consolation match to Fugate-Martinez of Levelland.
