MHS JV Run To Second Place Finish In Sandhills Relays

The Monahans JV boys finished second in Division II of the 48th Annual
Sandhills Relays at Estes Memorial Sta
dium, turning in solid performances in
front of the home crowd.
The Loboes 133 point finish gave them second place in the team standings behind Class 5A San Angelo Central. The bobcats won the Division II championship with 212 points.
Big Spring finished in third place with a total of 101 point, followed by Midland Christian with 70 points, Seminole (47), San Angelo Lakeview (36), Pecos (15), Kermit (2), and Presidio (2).
Ruben Rodriguez started the day off with a silver medal in the discus for the Loboes, soaring a 114-4 throw in the finals for second place.
Rodriguez added a fifth place finish in the shot put with throw of 36-7.
Matt Montoya collected third place in the long jump to give MHS their second medal of the day in three events. Montoya's jump of 16-10 earned him the bronze medal in the event.
The Loboes doubled their medal count in the triple jump when Tony Dipasquale and Tanner Owens went one-two in the event.
Dipasquale soared to a gold medal victory with a jump of 38-4.25, and Owens nailed an impressive 38-2 in the finals to claim the silver medal. Josh Smith added a fifth place finish with a jump of 35-11.75.
Blake Hughes and Tyson Childress tied for sixth place by clearing 5 feet in the high jump.
Hughes turned in an incredible performance in the pole vault afterward, clearing 11-6 in the finals to earn the gold medal in the event.
Aaron Forest turned in a time of 11:53.43 in the 3200-meter run, and Justin Tester added a sixth place finish in the event with a time of 12:21.24.
The Loboes' sprint relay team blasted the competition in the 4X100 meter relay, cruising to a first place finish with a time of 45.94.
Tony Dipasquale gave MHS a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.66.
Monahans added a third place finish in the 100-meter dash when Clay Anthony posted a time of 11.92, just missing the silver medal by a fraction of a second.
Matt Montoya took sixth place in the event with a time of 12.06.
The Loboes continued their battle with Central in the 4X200 meter relay, only this time the Bobcats edged MHS for the gold medal. Monahans finished in second place with a time of 1:39.74
Sean Britton claimed a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash for the Loboes with a time of 57.33.
Tyson Childress proved he had speed to burn by winning the 200-meter dash title with an impressive time of 23.81.
Aaron Forest finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:20.44, and Justin Tester posted a time of 5:27.62 to take the sixth position in the event.
The Loboes came close to ending the day with an incredible come-from-behind effort in the 4X400-meter relay.
Going into the final leg of the race, Tyson Childress took the exchange and moved MHS from fourth place into second place with a powerful 400 meters.
Childress' gutsy attempt brought Lobo fans to their feet, but the Central Bobcats were able to hold off the big push by the Loboes to win the event. Monahans finished the relay with a time of 3:48.20 and earned the silver medal.
The Loboes will compete at the Wildcat Relays in Wink on Friday.
